Brest harbor (Bay of Brest, Brittany, France) has a severe past of anthropogenic chemical contamination, but inputs tended to decrease, indicating a reassessment of its ecotoxicological status should be carried out. Here, native and caged mussels (Mytilus spp.) were used in combination to evaluate biological effects of chronic chemical contamination in Brest harbor. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) contamination was measured in mussel tissues as a proxy of harbor and urban pollution. ABSTRACT Considering that Alzheimer's disease is a prevalent neurodegenerative disease worldwide, we investigated the activities of three key kinases: creatine kinase, pyruvate kinase and adenylate kinase in the hippocampus and cerebral cortex in Alzheimer's disease model. Male adult Swiss mice received amyloid-β or saline. One day after, mice were treated with blank nanocapsules (17 ml/kg) or meloxicam-loaded nanocapsules (5 mg/kg) or free meloxicam (5 mg/kg). Treatments were performed on alternating days, until the end of the experimental protocol. In the fourteenth day, kinases activities were performed. Metabolic responses of clam Ruditapes philippinarum exposed to its pathogen Vibrio tapetis in relation to diet ArchiMer

We investigated the effect of brown ring disease (BRD)1 development and algal diet on energy reserves and activity of enzymes related to energy metabolism, antioxidant system and immunity in Manila clam, Ruditapes philippinarum. We found that algal diet did not impact the metabolic response of clams exposed to Vibrio tapetis. At two days post-injection (dpi), activities of superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) decreased whereas activities of nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and catalase increased in infected clams, although no clinical signs were visible (BRD-). The present study aims at describing the energy metabolism of Pacific oyster, Crassostrea gigas, spermatozoon. The main objectives are: (1) describing the kinetic of cellular and biochemical characteristics of Pacific oyster spermatozoon during its movement phase, (2) identifying the metabolic pathways to produce energy and their substrates, (3) determining the involvement of energy metabolism in fertilization success. The results showed the long duration (ranging 24 to 72h) of the movement of Pacific oyster spermatozoon and the maintenance of a high intracellular ATP content until the end of the movement phase. Physiological changes in Pacific oyster Crassostrea gigas exposed to the herpesvirus OsHV-1 μvar ArchiMer

Since 2008, mass mortality events of Crassostrea gigas have been occurring along the French coast when seawater temperature exceeds 16ºC. These mortality events are related to a particular genotype of the ostreid herpesvirus named OsHV-1 μvar. The present study aimed to detail various physiological aspects underlying the onset of the disease. In the laboratory, both exposed (infected) and naïve (healthy) oysters were maintained at 13.0°C and 20.6ºC. These temperatures were respectively lower and higher than the threshold values of 16°C at which the disease generally occur.
